Blade Runner was released in 1982 and was directed by Ridley Scott. It stars Harrison Ford as a futuristic cop who hunts robotic people.
I think the most impressive part in this film, for me, had to the futuristic cityscape with neon lights and floating cars. It reminded me of an updated version of Metropolis and aspects of high tech Asian city such as Hong Kong. It is meant to be set 40/50 years into the future from 1982 so we still have 10 years until this could become our reality. The cityscape contains both old and new buildings to reflect the true growing nature of a city and to reflect the new earth feel wanted, as in this version of the future humans have immigrated to off world colonies, leaving some of the older buildings as perfect escapes for action sequences. All the streets have a patchwork quality to them which in combination with the overcrowded population helps allude to the effect that humanity is at breaking point. A lot of the neon signs appeared to be in an Asian language. This was apparently done to not distract from the scene bit add to the congestion for the streets.
In conclusion I did really enjoy this film from a design perspective, however, it is not my favourite Ridley Scott film as I found the pace a bit slow.
