What a shoe says about you...

When choosing a shoe to try and psycho analyse, I wanted it to be something to do with my research project, Howard Carter. As a result, the shoes I have attempted to draw are a pair of overshoes, 1550-1070 BC made of Egyptian reed. No other details were presented and therefore I can make my own assumptions.

Being made of reed, I am guessing the individual lived near the Nile river. The shape of the shoe is suggestive of boat shape with the toe curling up, perhaps to reduce splash back. They are not very decorative would suggest the individual is not necessarily rich; however, I do not believe they were poor either as in that particular climate, if you were poor I don’t think you would have any shoes. Which allows me to come to the conclusion that they were middle class, perhaps a servant, a boatman for the pharaoh.

I really enjoyed this exercise as it allowed me from just an object imagine what the owners life was like. Every detail counts, something I feel is key to remember form a design perspective.
