Assembling and Fairylights

Writer's picture: Ally McEnhillAlly McEnhill

Lastly, I put the whole thing together having stained and painted all the parts the appropriate colours. Using wood glue, I slowly assembled everything. I started with by putting on the stairs and assembled the middle bits altogether. I did not actually in the end have to glue it in onto the and mainframe as I wanted to be able to have the freedom to play around with where the fairy lights could be.

I first tried to put the fairy lights under the stairs as well as an in the top head a bit of the architecture just above the door. It did not quite work though because as I said before the ink changed the colour of the top image and it just was not very strong and did not show the side hieroglyphics. And so put some of the fairy lights on the outskirts to really highlight the hieroglyphics. I kept the fairy lights under the stairs as I quite liked how they glowed forward but then I also put some aerial fairy lights in the top parts to look down.

Another change I made my design was initially the back was meant to be black and it was meant to be going towards darkness. But because I decided in the end not to include a figure, I think you really needed light at the end of the tunnel because you needed a focal point for everyone to look at rather than have a dark doorway at the end surrounded by all the light. I just did not really make sense, so I decided to place to a fairy light shining down on some card looking downwards just to give the illusion that there was something beyond that the character could go to.

I think the aesthetic overall, rustic wonky aesthetic of the stairs as well as the walls all really tied well together when with the aesthetic the books. I was really happy with it as a result and was also really happy with some of the more zoomed in and images, I was able to get of my model. It looked very atmospheric. I loved doing this project as it allowed me to use combination of all the different skills. If I had had more time, I would of course have improvements or additions I would have liked to have made such and a figure, but I am also very proud of what I have produced.
