Printing Experimentation

So having decided I no longer wanted to use the laser cutter, I needed to try and think of how I wanted to add textures to the walls but also add on the printed images that I wanted to be put on. In the end, I decided to use Polyfilla on the walls to give it that textured stone appearance. This was a technique that we learnt and in our modelmaking class so that was really good to be able to use that skill again in my work.

I then need to think of a way to print the image on top of the Polyfilla. So I looked it up and did a bit of research and found out that you could use a medium matte medium, paste it onto the Polyfilla and then stick your image down, flatten it, leave it to soak in and then peel it back. The result showed the image being pasted onto the other surface.

I decided to try it out a bit and before using it straight away on my final design. When doing the testing, I realised that if you put too much of the medium on it became too wet and then when pulling off it would bring up the back materials well, which is not really what you want to do. But then I also realised that if you did not paste all the way to the edges, then it would not pick up on the corners of the image which was not an intended effect either.

The tester was very beneficial because it allowed me to get used to the technique I did not know very well. Also allowed it gave me time to change my method if it did not go as intended and then replace how I was going try and print the images onto a textured surface.
