Initial Ideas

Having done my mood board, I then decided to sketch out a few ideas. The first one I looked at sloping ground that then went round the corner as that was something beyond the nook book. I found this technique used quite a lot of when doing my initial research book nooks. The second one I decided to try and incorporate stairs and going towards a particular focal point in the centre. I really liked how this one led the eye. I was inspired by one the photographs on my mood board of Rameses V and VI.

The third design seen on the right with the two rows of columns on both sides, was inspired by all the columns I saw on mood board. I placed the rows at an angle to highlight depth within the design to really show off the architecture but also make the book nook an invitation into another world. This is something I have tried to incorporate in all my rough sketches.

And then the last two I decided to try a little bit more than angled approach on it rather than having the focal point in the centre.

I the first design the figure is going towards something through a tunnel with the use of a column on the left. All the columns I have sketched in my designs are very rough. I am aware that Egyptian columns have a very distinctive shape and intend to elaborate on this if I chose a design with columns to further develop.

After sketching these ideas, I also want to explore some of these ideas in 3D to allow me to start to figure some of the practicalities. To do this, I want to use Sketchup to allow my SketchUp skills to further develop.
