When first exploring ideas for a book nook diorama, I knew I wanted it to be Ancient Egyptian themed as my contextual studies essay explored the discovery of King Tutankhamun’s tomb; but I did not quite know what form of architecture I wanted to try and capture within this small space. So, I developed this mood board using photoshop. I have been using photoshop for mood boards ever since I learnt how to use photoshop in our first tutorial. I find it very enjoyable to use as it is easy to crop images and layer them about. It allowed me to get a sense of the overall aesthetic I wanted to explore.
I really became fascinated with the ramp/steps used in one of the images as I thought it was an interesting way to give perspective and depth to a small space. Another feature I really liked was the columns, with their intricate designs. All the designs were highly decorative with hieroglyphics everywhere. I wanted that to be very prominent in my design.
Another thing I found interesting was the use of light. A lot of the image’s architecture led towards light or lead towards darkness. I know I want in my design to use light to highlight the architecture because it being a book knock, light is very important to use, so was very interesting to see how in these different forms of architectural light.
Doing this mood board really help me collate together loads of different ideas that I liked from the Egyptian architecture that then went on to inform my initial ideas.
