Photoshop Visual

Having solidified the rough design with the measurements and built a prototype, I decided to then go on and use photoshop, as I mentioned earlier, to create a final design or visual. In this visual I wanted hieroglyphics to be everywhere as when refencing back to my mood board, I saw how most the walls were busy and colourful. Due to this, I decided to use a dark teal colour for the ceiling. I also managed to find some images of certain symbols within ancient Egypt such as the winged sun which is meant to represent power and light in the world.

I also decided I wanted to use black foam board for the outside as I thought it would blend mostly in with the books which I showed with a black border in this design.

I feel like my illustrative skills on photoshop has very much improved and since starting skills passport. Not just because in this module but also making visuals in the intro module using the basic skills we learnt at the start of the year. For instance, the basic skills like stretching images and manipulating them and then using the burning tool and highlighting tool to give it a bit more depth. This can be seen in the stairs in this visual as the top of each step is darker than the side.

I think looking back on it now, if I had more time, I would have probably tried to add more atmosphere into it. But at the moment, I also don’t know where I intend to put fairy lights. This is something I wan to decide once the model is built as I feel only then can I see what the most appropriate parts to highlight are.

Another thing I decided to do when looking into this was to try and find some old book to accompany my book nook. So I went down to am a nearby charity shop and stocked up on old books. I managed to find these ones that happened to also have titles which kind of fit in with the project. For example Gulliver's Travels (where everything is tiny), Venture Into the Interior and Behind the Scenes. All strangely fitting for my project.

Originally when doing this project, I had wanted to surround it with non-fiction books about Egypt. But when thinking about the overall crumbling aesthetic I wanted, it made more sense to go for older books to be surrounding it to match that kind of rustic you feel. However, I would have loved to include maybe an old copy of the Death on the Nile or another classic set in Egypt. However, because of money and time this was not possible. I want the book nook to be an escape into another world rather than a representation of a book it was a means to escape.
