In this print class, we used lino and printing ink to produce prints! I chose to do a lizard design. When cutting into the lino, initially I found it really difficult to get the detail and to follow the design I had drawn on. I have used lino before but not for a while and I have never quite perfected the detailed intricacies.
Having created my design I then went onto to first print onto paper. Originally it took a lot of time to get the right amount of ink on the page to allow the design to be properly represented. Something I found really interesting though was that some of the background also left marks. Maybe this was because I did not scrape deep enough or that I needed to cut the design out.
Having perfected paper, I then went onto to try printing on different materials such as masks and tracing paper. I really like the effect that tracing paper made as it allowed me to layer the lizard over other lizard designs.
I really enjoyed lino printing I hope that one day I may feel more comfortable with it and attempt a more ambitious and detailed design.
