For the first SketchUp session, we were all getting used to the software and becoming aware how to use it, to navigate around it. I found the orbit tool in combination with the pan tool particularly useful to move around the plane. Once getting the hang of how to navigate around the software, we then went on to start to build a scale model of the studio in the Waverley building. For this we mainly used rectangles but it was a really useful way to get used to using making something 2D to 3D through using the push and pull tool.

As well as learning how to make 2D 3D, we also explored how to show measurements of our given model once made (as well as whilst making it) to make sure that we were being accurate. I can imagine this would be very useful software to make models from technical drawings as it is quick and to scale. We also went on to explore how to fill our models with various textures. For example, I made the inside black and the outside have a brick appearance. This made the model look more realistic and it was really interesting to see the variety of materials available in the filler section.

Lastly we also learnt how to add in furniture from the database available on SketchUp. I added in some chairs, this was a hard to get to grips with at first because when trying to duplicate the chairs I kept getting it on the wrong axis making it not in line with each other. However once I got the hang of it I could see how this would be a really good way to quickly insert some furniture into a given setting or experiment with different furniture possibilities.

Overall, I found this tutorial very useful I had used SketchUp before but I wasn't aware of certain shortcuts that could be used such as the tool that allows you to make inner walls quickly and also the measurement tool to increase accuracy. I think in future I would like to be able to experiment with making models of my sets using the software but also I want to try and see how you can build different shapes other than rectangles into 3D form.
