Sketchup Development

Before deciding what design, I wanted to do, I decided to explore some of my ideas using sketch up to allow me to understand how I would piece it together. I decided to develop my first 3 designs in this way as I believed they showed the most depth and I preferred the eye being led tp the middle rather than the side. After developing my designs briefly in this way, I then decided to chose the stair design as my final idea. This was because I wanted to challenge my modelling skills with stairs (something I had never done before. I also wanted to try and work on the perspective of the stairs and develop how I could make this piece effective. This design was the hardest design to develop on SketchUp as it was very fiddly to get the angled walls and stairs in correctly.

I then also used sketch up to map out some measurements. This was a useful tool to do that task with although, I did not use all the measurements I gathered as I wanted to physically plan some of the measurement to by making a prototype. But it was a very effective starting point, especially with the stairs. To ensure the stair calculations were correct I also used a stair calculator to try and calculate how I would do stairs in 1 to 50 scale. Using the overall rise and run and well as the number of intended steps and measurements, I was able to figure it out.

If I had had more time, I would have liked to have maybe done a bit more in detail in my sketch up designs. But I think now that I have selected my rough idea, I want to pursue I will further embellish this in a visual/ final design in Photoshop. I think also it may have been very challenging to show details such as the hieroglyphics using Sketch up making Photoshop the more appropriate for this task.
